11 Apr

There has been a lot of attention paid toward the increasing number of patients with this ailment. It is quite important because it’s a major cause of hospitalizations, morbidity, mortality and rising cost of healthcare.

The cost of providing care for patients with CKD including ESKD account for about 7 % of the Medicare budget for a condition that afflicts about 1% of the population. The cost runs into several billions of dollars per year,

It is therefore important to find way to ameliorate the rising cost. The major causes of CKF are diabetes mellitus and hypertension,

our efforts therefore should be geared towards preventing the onset of these problems, controlling adequately these conditions and treating in the most appropriate and cost effective manner.

Dietary approach, weight management and adherence to medical regimens will go a long way in controlling the rising incidence of CKD.

The next segment will feature on the stages of CKD.
